What is Heritage

Supporting Argyll and Isles heritage

What is Heritage : our heritage is our past from the Big Bang to Present Day.
Our Heritage in Argyll and Bute is the rich tapestry of buildings, archaeology, traditions, objects, culture, art and stories that have shaped our communities throughout the millenia.

Across the county we are surrounded by the obvious signs of our heritage from the standing stones, the chambered castles, the dozens of castles and the clan histories. What is often less appreciated are the intangible customs, the stories, the way of life, the landscape and family histories. We are very lucky to have some of the best archaeology in the country, and a number of exceptional museums throughout Argyll and Bute.

Our heritage is the legacy of the past that informs who we are today.

Below are some of the aspects of our heritage we could develop further to help share the depth there is to the history of Argyll and Bute
